May is National Celiac Awareness Month designed to raise awareness of this autoimmune disorder that affects about 1 in 133 people, making it one of the most common yet mis-or undiagnosed health conditions in the world.
When Aleia’s started, 11 years ago, 97% of the 3 million Americans living with celiac disease remained undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Today, 83% are waiting for their diagnosis – a 17% drop in the undiagnosed rate.
Researchers are getting closer to understanding how celiac disease develops and various treatment options are being explored. A 100% gluten-free diet is the only existing treatment for celiac disease today. Even though it is overwhelming at first, know that the diet will get easier to manage over time.
Spreading the word ultimately makes others aware of the disease itself and we’ve created a way for you to get involved!
Throughout the month of May, we will be sharing gluten-free recipes that use our flavor-full products that have brought happiness to those living gluten-free and suffering from Celiac. Oftentimes, those with dietary restrictions must give up foods they enjoy. By sharing gluten-free versions of some favorite dishes, we hope to #takebackceliac and essentially “take back” those mouth-watering foods that so many have had to refrain from.
